Usui Reiki

Picture
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Hands-on healing has been around for millennia and has been known in many cultures. The Usui system of Reiki was developed in Japan by Mikao Usui, a Tendai Buddhist monk, at the beginning of the 20th century. It was introduced to the West in 1938 by a Japanese-American woman, Hawayo Takata.

Reiki aims to rebalance the body’s energy flow. Practitioners explain this by comparing the body’s energy to a river. Our energy should flow easily down through the body. Occasionally, a pebble, or even a rock, will fall into that river and make the flow of the water a little more difficult. These pebbles are human worries, fears and anger. Each pebble builds on top of the other. Soon there is only a trickle of water running in that once free-flowing river.

At this point, stress or physical pain may be felt. A reiki treatment aims to help the body rebalance its own energy.

Reiki can contribute to a person’s wellbeing by making them feel:
  • Relaxed
  • Peaceful
  • More energetic

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy.

Treatment

In general, a reiki procedure will involve the following:
  • Become comfortable on a massage table or sit in a chair.
  • The practitioner places their hands on or just above your body in sequences of positions.
  • Unlike massage, a reiki treatment does not involve any form of physical manipulation.
  • You do not need to remove any clothing and no private parts of your body are touched.
  • During a treatment, you may feel warmth or cold, a tingling sensation, slight twitching or a rumbling tummy, or you may feel absolutely nothing.
  • A complete reiki session can last from 60 to 90 minutes.

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

Reiki Principles

Picture
Dr. Mika Usui ( 1865 – 1926 ) is the founder of Reiki and creator of the principles.    Whilst there are a few variations of these ancient principles out in the world, I personally don’t think it matters which one you use.

The important thing is to feel, and know in your heart, which set of 5 principles you feel most connected too.   Your intuition or gut feelings will certainly let you know.

Below are the 5 reiki principles. Read them gently and slowly.   Enjoy.

1:  Just for today, I will not be angry

2:  Just for today, I will not worry

3:  Just for today, I will be grateful

4:  Just for today, I will do my work honestly

5:  Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing:

Of course you can create your own five principles.  In fact why not!

For example, if you are not keen on using the word anger you may change it to: “Just for today I will feel peaceful” or if you are not keen on using the word worry simply change to:   “Just for today I will trust totally”.

The whole idea is to uplift your thinking and overall  sense of well-being -  just for today – with 5 simple sentences, that mean something to you.

Reiki is a natural and safe method of energetic healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

An amazingly simple technique to learn, the ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve one's health and enhance the quality of life.

I am a Reiki 3 practitioner, and offer subtle energy treatments focusing on restoring harmony and self healing.
I am also open to expressions of interest for courses in Reiki.

An opportunity to simply Be in stillness, connecting with Self.
